I would LOVE to see how the WT writers squirm their way out of that.. In most of our lifetimes we will see the US crumble spectacularly. Personally I don't look forward to it, based on how it will affect the world economy for a while. Many Americans still deny that they are screwed... They can't imagine their beloved country falling apart.

QC, I agree with you. The mathematics of the universe are beautiful. What is especially beautiful to me is how it all happens without god. We now understand how it likely came to be. We also understand how the automatic processes brought the universe to where it is. Nowhere has there ever been a need for a creator. Not "in the beginning," not now.
How do you reconcile god's absenteeism? And don't give me that "gods ways are mysterious, universal sovereignty" baloney. Why will god take a break from giving starving kids AIDS in third world countries to help Christians in meaningless areas of their lives, but won't take a second to actually do any good? Is he not able?
When a natural disaster happens, we legally call it an 'act of god.' Why does god get the blame for insurance purposes but not for every other tragedy? Did he do any of it? Does he do ANY good at all? Why is he such an asshole?
You say you cannot be an atheist because you see purpose in creation.. Ok fine be that way. But answer this: given my points above, does he deserve to be revered and worshipped? If he is real, does he deserve this royal treatment? Do you believe in the bible? Do you believe he actually did all those things in the OT? If he did then he certainly is capable of causing all kinds of harm today. Why worship him? I'd say a block of wood deserves more worship. At least you can light it on fire and get some real benefit from it. Come on QC, make me a believer again.
Oh and if you wouldn't mind actually responding instead of copy/pasting YouTube vids that you don't understand, that would be great.

If you don't believe in God where do you get the strength to cope?
by Miss.Fit ini know there are some here that are going through some tough times.
some of you do not believe in god.
some are not sure.. i was told recently by a friend to pray to god for help and he would comfort me.. my first impulse is to pray.

Cope with what? My life has heck me infinitely better without Gawd.
But when rational, reasonable people go through tough times they rely on their friends. Believers unload their problems onto god, we rational people work through them with the people who love us. Humans don't need to rely on a god who doesn't do anything anyway. At least friends and loved ones can offer real help and comfort

Do you see an equivalency here between the Word of God and the word of the Anointed?
by I_love_Jeff inis this commandment, let us cover our territory four times in six months, really as binding as when jehovah said to the logos in gen.1:26 let us make man in our image?.
taken from the watchtower, july 1, 1943 page 204-206, righteous requirements:.
the lord breaks down our organization instructions further and makes them more practicable by further instructing us through his faithful and wise servant.

An I love that Boozie Rutherford quote. God he was arrogant! The funny thing is though, that while they use kinder language today, the message is the same. "Do as we say, because god said so."

Am I wasting my time?
by mrhhome ini am the husband of an ex-jw.
she left when she was 18, because she was dating a non-jw.
they got married, and he began openly cheating on her.

These aren't regular Christians... They're cult members. All brainwashed. You are wasting time on your BIL, most say spend that on your wife but.. You need to understand. While the JW stuff may not have fully sunk in with her, she may still have some of the cult phobias or reactions built in. Do some more reading around here, you'll find out what I mean. Any supposed interest they may think you have in their religion they will eat up, thinking you cannot help but see The Truth. They reason from the position that they are right, everyone else is wrong because their little books say so. Like I said, cult. When you challenge their beliefs, you activate their cult personality and drive them deeper in. Just be glad your wife isn't still in... But be careful they don't try to rope her back, as they definitely will do. Some distance from her family will be best. Good luck!

Sam Harris' $20,000 Challenge - The Moral Landscape
by cofty inin his book, "the moral landscape" sam harris argues that you can in fact get "an ought from an is".. the split between facts and values is an illusion.. he challenges the assumption that science has nothing to say about objective morality, which he defines as our thinking about the well-being of conscious creatures.. personally i found his book to be compelling; all the arguments against it that i have read so far are based on misunderstandings of his thesis.
i hve quoted harris a couple of times when he said to his critics that he didn't want to be wrong any longer than necessary.
in that spirit he has offered $10,000 to anybody who can refute the central argument of his book in 1000 words or less.

Laika, I understand your point but you cannot compare a clown like Kent Hovind to Sam Harris... If you've read any of his work you'll know why. I just finished reading The Moral Landscape, it is very good. You may want to pick it up, even just to consider the viewpoint he presents. Good stuff.

How I see it in JW land
by tornapart inthey're tired... sooooo soooo tired.
they know it's all wrong but they keep telling themselves how wonderful it is.
almost as if they are trying to convince themselves.

I'm sorry but I can't agree. These people are brainwashed, and he brainwashing is only getting stronger. Now they are trying to appeal more to children, so they can rope them in early. Yes, among the people I know there are many who are in robot mode... Most are. The attitude is different than In years past, but those die hards from the 70s and 80s are still around, along with their families. Once that crowd dies of there will be a large divide thru the congos. There are the hard cores, they work part time and starve while they pioneer. On the other side we have the born ins, they still work full time, have mortgages and real jobs and a vacation or two every year. The hard cores sneer at the "friends" out of jealousy, while they look down upon them because of their not putting 'the kingdom first.' This is apparent already, but once the old school Dubs die off we will just be led with these two groups. Make no mistake... Even the most liberal Dub is properly brainwashed, usually from birth.

Did Jesus say his people would have a study program? No. He said you will know them by their love. You ask who is preaching the good news world wide.. Nobody. There is still a very large percentage of the world who has never heard a remotely Christian 'good news' or point of view. You say nobody can say 'I don't know JW'... The majority of the population of the earth can say that. It happens to depend on where a person was born. If it is absolutely crucial that everyone hear the good news, why is gods organization unable to spread it to everyone? There are JWs in many countries yes, but they have a very small presence in most. Just because there are JWs spread out does not mean the good news is being preached 'to all the nations' meaning to EVERYONE. Even in Russell's day, he taught that the bible students had preached to all nations.. While they were still a tiny, insignificant group. Today, the JWs are still a small obscure group. It is very rare to hear that anyone takes them seriously. You can only beat the end times drum so long (130 years so far) before you become nothing more than a nuisance. Now let me ask you a question... How do you know that Jesus came into power in 1914? We're the bible students watching for him to do this at that time? What did God's organization teach about it at the time? What do they say now? Are you sure?

I love how this thread is still alive.. I don't think a single doubting creationist could get an ounce of assurance of their belief from the crap QC and his buddies say. Copied and pasted pages and videos of even bigger clowns than himself.. Sad. Most JWs do disbelieve evolution, but only because they have been lied to about it. This in itself will cause many to question.. It certainly did for me. If anything, QC's thread has been a great forum for presenting facts to refute creationist pseudoscience. Anyone can see it. So thanks, QC, keep it up. You help make more atheists every day.
